ANNUAL MEETING REMINDER
Remember to mark your calendars for the Annual Membership Meeting in Lake St. Louis, MO, November 2-4, 2000.
Trustees should plan to arrive before 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, and to stay through 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 5.
All other members and guests should plan to arrive by Thursday morning, November 2, for the Trakehner Mare Show. Other activities that have been planned include a Welcome Reception on Thursday evening with a lecture or demonstration by Olympic Medalist, Hilda Gurney; stallion and mare inspections Thursday through Saturday. Friday evening there will be a Stallion Parade followed by a Material Class, the Mare Championship, and educational demonstrations on showing in-hand and eventing. The Trakehner Auction - if sufficient horses are consigned - will probably be held on Saturday afternoon.
The horse related activities and educational sessions will be held at America's Exposition Park, 880 Freymuth Road, Lake St. Louis, MO 63366. The Annual Awards Banquet and the membership meeting will take place at the Holiday Inn Wentzville, a 45-minute ride from the airport (taxi fare $50!) and 10 minutes from the Exposition Park. It might be prudent to plan to share a rental car with friends.
Further information and meeting registration forms will be provided in the September/October newsletter.
NEW EXCEPTIONAL MARE - KOTETT *Ps*
By Kalluster, out of Koralle XI by Pasteur has been awarded the Silver Performance award for eventing, the first ATA mare to have earned this award. Congratulations to her owner Tim Holekamp, Columbia, MO, and her breeder Henry Snyder, Pittsford, NY.
Kokett *Ps*
ABIZA *E* NOW ALSO ELITE MARE IN GERMANY
Since her sons Abdullah and Amiego were also approved in Germany and she has produced several additional offspring that were successful in international competition, the German Trakehner Verband has awarded the Elite Mare title to this exceptional mare. She is probably the only mare in any breed who has earned that designation on two different continents.

RETIREMENT OPPORTUNITY!
If you have or know of an older black horse (Trakehner!) in lightly rideable condition who needs an excellent and tax-advantaged home, listen to this.
One of the most respected and academically advanced military schools in this country is Culver Military Academy in northern Indiana, a college prep school for grades 9-12 (plus a huge summer camp program). Their Horsemanship Department is very prominent in their curriculum and in fact is an amazing set-up, that should be seen in person. Culver has become virtually the last bastion of US Cavalry horsemanship, and the stable and entire program are a living and working memorial to the Cavalry. It is fascinating to learn about but is even better to be part of. Students who excel there can become part of the famous Culver Black Horse Troop, which has been in continuous existence for 103 years and has appeared in 12 Presidential Inaugurations, including the last one.
There are approximately 54 mounts in their troop currently, but even more riders.
They are in immediate need of about 15 more horses. What better breed than the ultimate cavalry mount, the Trakehner? The requirements are: at least 10 years old, at least 14 hands, all black, a blaze or stocking is acceptable, and a good disposition. The sounder the better, but these are parade horses, not jumping competitors, so there is definitely some leeway.
I can attest personally to the very satisfactory way these horses are kept and treated. None of us would fault them. Their facility is enough to send anyone into green envy. This school needs and would truly appreciate your contribution and will help in any way possible to make it easy for you. Please contact Horsemanship Director Ed Little directly at 219-842 -8355 or me at 573-442-0442 or E-mail to Holekamp@aol.com if you have any questions. Tim Holekamp
ATTENTION MEMBERS WITH HORSES FOR SALE - LAST CHANCE!
We have been receiving many telephone calls inquiring about an ATA sale at this year's annual meeting in St. Louis, November 2-4, 2000. Before we organize it and commit ourselves to hiring an auctioneer, etc., we need to know if people are interested in consigning enough horses to make it feasible.
If you are thinking about consigning, please call, fax or write the ATA office by July 31 so we can proceed. You need not commit yourselves at this time, nor pay any consignment fees, just let us know that you have a horse that you can send. If we haven't heard from any consignors by July 31, there will be no sale!
Any questions, please fax the sale chairman, Tom Nowaskey, at 847-359-1787 (IL).
HIGH SCORE DRESSAGE RIBBON WINNERS
With the Board's permission the Awards Committee has begun a new program intended to recognize successful Trakehner dressage horses, publicize the ATA, and attract more members. The overwhelming majority of competing Trakehners are involved with dressage, so recognized USDF shows were chosen for this initial program. The organizer of every show has been or will be contacted and a ribbon offered to give to the rider of the ATA-registered horse who achieves the highest percent score of the show (under saddle, regular classes, training level and above).
After only three months of operation this program is seemingly a success. So far 120 ribbons have been requested and sent. The reported results of the first six weeks are listed below. Rider interest in the ribbon has been high, and we have received several compliments from organizers. Perhaps in the future we will be able to use this model to expand into other sports.

ATTENTION BREEDING CLASS EXHIBITORS
For the first time this year, the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) is going to give Horse of the Year Awards for horses showing in dressage sport horse breeding classes.
To qualify for the awards, a horse must be registered with the USDF at the time the scores are earned. The owner must be a Participating Member of the USDF, the handler need not be a member.
If you are showing in USDF recognized Sport Horse Breeding classes or in the USDF Breeders Championship Series - in-hand classes only - please go to the USDF website to get more detailed rules, or call USDF at 402-434-8550, Fax 403-434-8570.
ANOTHER TRIP TO NEUMÜNSTER COMING UP
Trakehner Stallion Inspections and Auction 2000 and Tour of Stud Farms
October 25 to November 3, 2000. Trip Details
LITHUANIA 10th TRAKEHNER VERBAND DAUGHTER
After two years of negotiations, the "Trakehner Friends of Lithuania" signed an agreement with the Trakehner Verband, like nine other worldwide groups before them, among them the ATA, to breed Trakehner horses according to the breeding rules of the Trakehner Verband.
In Lithuania, the Trakehner horse is one of the best known and most popular riding horse breeds. Twenty primarily private breeding farms own roughly 200 Trakehner mares and close to 20 stallions. The state-owned farm Nemunas is the largest Trakehner stud farm of the country. Most of Lithuania's Trakehners are based on old Trakehnen bloodlines that came to them from the Russian Stud Kirov and on East Prussian lines obtained in Poland. These horses were inspected by a delegation from Germany in cooperation with Lithuanian breeders and only the best of them - purebred Trakehners - were selected for breeding under the agreement. Their progeny are eligible to be branded with the double moose antler with an addition to indicate Lithuania.
MEDINGEN SPRING AUCTION AGAIN A HUGE SUCCESS
Not one but several records were broken at the Spring Medingen auction in April. Eight horses sold for more than DM 100,000, three for more than DM 200,000, bringing the average for the 35 horses that found a new home to DM 80,000. After a suspenseful bidding process, the hammer for the top price horse, Global Player, a 4-year-old dark bay by Hohenstein, fell at the staggering sum of DM 340,000 paid by a Swedish Olympic dressage rider. Anky van Grunsven's trainer, Sjef Janssen, bought two coming dressage stars for the World Champion, Paukenschlag by Pomerol and Sommelier by Napoleon Quatre, both 4-year-old geldings. All in all, 10 horses were sold to countries outside of Germany.
A seldom used rule was unearthed a few weeks before the auction according to which a special stallion inspection can be held - at the expense of the stallion owners - if at least three stallions are presented for approval. The only colt approved at this year's special inspection was the stunning 4-year-old dark bay Tanzmeister II by Caprimond, out of Traumweise by Tenor. He is a full brother to the approved stallion Tanzmeister I, foaled in 1993. As the last horse in the auction, the freshly approved Tanzmeister II still managed to bring his owners DM 300,000.
TRAKEHNER VERBAND HAS NEW MANAGING BOARD
At their annual membership and delegates meeting April 29, 2000, eighty Trakehner Verband delegates from all over Germany elected the following new Managing Board:
President - Rolf Radzuweit, Euskirchen
First Vice President - Petra Wilm, Tasdorf
Second Vice President - Hans Werner Paul, Rethwisch
Member - Hubertus Poll, Hörem
Member - Pius Harlacher, Oberhausen-Rheinhausen
Former President Klaus Wittlich, well known to ATA members from his attendance at ATA meetings, declined to run again after having served in his position for nine years.
The new President, Rolf Radzuweit, 51, is a business manager in the healthcare industry and the organizer of the annual all-Trakehner horse show in Cologne. He is also a member of the Trakehner Sport Committee, a recognized horse show judge and a member of the board of the German Stallion Owners Society.
Petra Wilm, 44, is an active dressage rider who has competed up to the Grand Prix level, is a member of the dressage long list and, among others, State Dressage Champion of Schleswig-Holstein.
Hans Werner Paul, 61, is a native East Prussian, successful breeder of several approved stallions and champion mares. For many years, he has been the chief delegate of the Schleswig-Holstein breeding district and has been a member of the Trakehner Stallion Inspection Committee for 23 years.
Hubertus Poll, 52, frequent visitor to ATA functions, is a Trakehner breeder in the third generation (with the 4th generation growing up rapidly). He has bred and stood many very famous Trakehner stallions and is the longest serving member of the Trakehner Verband Managing Board.
Pius Harlacher, 50, is a banker who has been breeding Trakehners for more than 30 years and has served in a voluntary position as the Trakehner Verband comptroller.
