A select sale auction of ATA registered horses is planned as part of the 35th Anniversary celebration in conjunction with the annual convention in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The sale will offer a pre-selected number of quality Trakehner horses consigned by ATA members.
Two Palmenblüte winners, the ATA’s most prestigious award, have been graduates of the previous ATA auctions. Numerous award winning horses and several approved Trakehner stallions have been acquired by buyers through the ATA auction as well. The offering will be a combination of breeding stock, some young horses as well as riding horses under saddle.
ATA members whose horses are selected for the sale are afforded a unique opportunity to showcase and offer their horse before a wider audience of potential buyers versus marketing them off their farm. Potential buyers can choose from a larger number of horses at a single place thereby making it more interesting for them to travel and attend the sale.
There is no initial consignment fee for ATA members to consign horses to the sale. The selling commission is a maximum of 2½% for ATA members to cover ATA costs. There is no sales tax for horses sold at auction in Tennessee. Only a handful of states do not charge sales tax on horses. Tennessee is one of them and this should help to attract buyers to the sale.
Horses will be selected for the sale by a sale selection committee consisting of ATA inspectors and two ATA member riders based on photographs, video or personal inspection. Riding horses must be under saddle for at least 90 days. In foal broodmares less than 10 years of age that have scored at least 50 points at an inspection are automatically are selected for the sale. All stallion candidates at the 2009 stallion inspection in Tennessee are also automatically selected for the sale if owners wish to offer them.
After horses have been selected for the auction, all riding horses and all horses two years of age or older require digital X-rays as well as any broodmare dually offered as a riding horse. If a broodmare is offered only as a breeding horse, X-rays are not required. All horses will require a clinical veterinary examination, a negative Coggins test and an interstate health certificate.
Advertising will be primarily on the Internet. Print media will be designed to attract buyers outside the ATA. The catalog will be available on the Internet as well as part of the program for the convention.
A licensed veterinarian will be available to potential buyers to discuss X-rays and clinical examinations that were conducted on auction horses.
